engram stores everything under keywords you choose. Type one word, get the whole note back.
Sample data — type freely, nothing is sent anywhere.
Small things, needed often, always filed somewhere you can't recall.
Router config, API responses, exports — paste them as-is. Nested objects open level by level, arrays become tables with columns.
Edit one cell and only that cell changes. A long number like 9007199254740993 keeps every digit; nothing is rounded behind your back.

Entry content will be locked in your browser with a key only your machine holds. We keep no copy and have no way to read it.
Item names and tags are not encrypted — they are what makes search work. If you turn on similar-meaning search, those two are sent to an embedding server we run ourselves. Entry content never is, even then.
Encrypted
The content of every text and json entry.
Not encrypted
Item names, tag names, edit times, entry counts.

Because we do not hold your key, you need your own way back. There are three, set up at sign-up.
10 recovery keys
Print them, put them away. Each one opens the vault on its own, once.
Passkey
Fingerprint or security key. Open the vault without typing anything.
Remembered device
Your usual machine opens straight away; an unfamiliar one does not.
Free, no cap on items. Needs an email and a passphrase you use nowhere else.
